Class: Instrumental Music Teacher

Began at St. Mary': 1985

Bachelor of Music Education-Baldwin Wallace College, clarinet major, 1970

As a child in the Sedlacek family, I was exposed to ethnic European music by a performing grandfather and father. And with the vanguard of television, I also was immersed in pop music of the 1950s variety shows. By fourth grade, I knew my life's goal. Cleveland Public Schools' wonderful musical arts programs and my parents' encouragement, along with their insistence on private clarinet instruction sealed my musical fate. After graduating from Baldwin Wallace College, I taught public school music for 12 years, gave private lessons and performed in summer band concerts and community theater productions.

In 1983, a career change led to my customer service position in the airline industry for 20 years. Throughout my airline work, I continued to teach lessons at St. Mary's, assisting my former instructor, Angelo Fortini. Now retired from U.S. Airways, I invest my time studying current world events, the ultimate issues of life and support family values based organizations. I continue to work at educating young people in Catholic and American values through teaching the gift of music.
